That’s right! You can make an ordinary onion bag into a bird’s nesting and feeding material. Children will find this amazing way of feeding birds overwhelming and enjoyable. Not to mention, this is a good way of keeping them busy by exploring new things rather than seating in couches watching TV and playing video games.
Birds love to drop in once they see a place to nest and feed. The idea of hanging an onion bag on one of your trees, fully filled with any useful bits of things from your backyard, is a brilliant way to call a bird’s attention. Plus children get to have fun making it with their bare hands. With a little guidance from an adult, I’m sure kids can easily make a nesting material for birds passing by.
It’s so simple. Get those mesh bags used to pack oranges or onions in the supermarket. Then fill it up with fallen leaves, dry grass, twigs, straw, feathers, yarn or even strings. These will make a very good nest for the birds. There are actually so many bits of pieces that you can put inside the net that will work productively as a nesting material. Your other option is to make it as a feeder by putting in treats like bread, cooked rice, potatoes or pasta.
Then once it is done, you can now help your kids hang it on tree trunks or anything high where birds can see it and pull out the things you placed inside the net. The birds will pull those tiny bits of materials that you have gathered through the mesh holes. What a wonderful site to see with your kids, huh? Hearing those little voices, tickled and happy, while staring at those cute little birds eating and singing is such a gratifying feeling.
Why don’t you try it with your kids and experience an amusing bonding with them. As they get to be a little serious with this hobby of feeding birds, then you can buy and accessorize your garden with some nice real bird feeders and other bird accessories. For now, enjoy the experiment and have fun!
