bird-feedersGardens are usually included in the architectural design of houses. This is a space that does not only add beauty for your home but it can also be a source of many fun and interesting things for families and friends to enjoy. One of those things you can do to make it even more interesting is by making it a sanctuary for birds to visit, rest, and eat. It will be an easy thing to accomplish through the use of bird feeders.

Bird feeders do not just attract birds it can also be used as a decorative piece that will embellish your garden. Although it is easy to do a bird feeder project at home, buying those that are intended to improve your garden’s appeal will be a more suitable option if your aim is to have a nicely decorated outdoor space.

If you are new to bird feeding then your next question should be about the kind of food that birds eat. This will actually depend on the particular variety of birds you want to attract. The mix seeds intended for feeding birds you can get from pet stores are usually intended for sparrows, finches, doves and pigeons. If you wish to see humming birds and some small parakeets in your lawn then lure them with fruits like orange, apples and pears.

Aside from bird feeders, putting additional accents like bird houses and baths are also an excellent idea. A nicely decorated outdoor space can be a source of pride, don’t you think? And of course, nurturing and maintaining a nice garden will be a good hobby to keep.

Moss Gardens: If You Can’t Treat Them, Grow Them

moss-gardenMoss gardens have been flourishing in Japan for centuries now. Japanese have actually created vast areas of moss gardens and found that it is a better way to use this plant instead of buying chemicals to treat and make them vanish. In the United States however, this idea is just starting to be accepted by people but it seems to be seeing a heightened popularity in the near future.

Moss thrives in shaded places but still needs a bit of sunlight for photosynthesis. If you have a garden area that is shaded in most times of the day that no plant can thrive healthily, then creating a moss garden space is your next best option.

You do not have to buy moss from a plant nursery to propagate them in your garden. In fact, they are rarely available on sale. Surely though, they are already propagating somewhere in that shaded and moist area, just that waiting for them to spread widely on your preferred spot will take a long time. So all you have to do is do a simple manual labor to make them grow and multiply at a much faster rate. Here is how:

    - Gather a mass of moss from your garden.

    - Mix it in a blender with 2 cups of water and 2 cups of buttermilk.

    - Use the lowest speed to mix everything.

    - Produce a mixture resembling the consistency of a thin milk shake.

    - Should you notice that the amount of moss is probably too little but you’ve ran out of places in your garden to get it from, don’t be shy to ask from your good neighbors. They might be more than willing to get rid of them anyway.

    - Once the needed consistency is achieved, spread the mixture in areas where you want moss to grow.

    - Take care of those spots by constantly sprinkling water and remove all debris.

There are plenty of moss garden ideas you can get online. Doing this as your next home project is a good idea, right?
