Many of the bird feeders made today are of a more decorative nature and, although pretty to look at, they need to be more protected from the weather. Check any new feeder you buy for the hanging feature - will water run down the string and into the center of the bird seed making it a wet clump; how much protection does the top overhang protect the seed tray. The cones made to squirrel-proof feeders may also turn out to be a good way to protect a fancy feeder. Enjoy the birds.</description>
